Is kosher food really available on safari?
Yes — and it's excellent. We provide a private glatt kosher chef who travels with you and prepares all meals. Kosher meat is flown in from South Africa. Chalav Yisrael and Pas Yisrael available on request.
How does Shabbat work on safari?
Game drives end by 3pm Friday. We arrange candle lighting, Kabbalat Shabbat, full Shabbat meals, siddurim, and an Eruv around your camp. Non-electric room access pre-arranged. Havdalah under the stars.
What about Jewish holidays (Pesach, Sukkot)?
Full holiday arrangements available. Pesach: Seder, chametz-free kitchen, hand-made shmurah matzah. Sukkot: Sukkah at your lodge, Arba Minim arranged. Simchat Torah celebration with Torah scroll.
Is there a minyan?
Depends on your group size and timing. We can coordinate with other Jewish travellers or arrange a rabbi/cantor. Cape Town and Johannesburg have daily minyanim.
What does a kosher safari cost?
Generally $800-$2,500 per person per day depending on destination, season, and luxury level. Includes private chef, all kosher meals, Shabbat arrangements, accommodation, and game drives.
Is Africa safe for Jewish travellers?
Yes. South Africa has a large, active Jewish community (~70,000). East and Southern Africa are very welcoming. We work only with lodges that understand Jewish needs. Security concerns are minimal in safari areas.
Do I need vaccinations?
Yellow fever may be required for some East African countries. Routine vaccines recommended. Malaria prophylaxis optional in most safari areas — we also offer malaria-free destinations.
Can children come on safari?
Absolutely! We specialise in family safaris. Malaria-free destinations available for young children. Child-friendly game drives, kosher kids' menus, babysitting available.
How far in advance should I book?
6-12 months recommended, especially for peak season (July-October) and specific lodges. Pesach and Sukkot programs book 9+ months ahead. Last-minute sometimes possible.
What's the difference from a regular safari?
Same world-class wildlife — plus private kosher chef, Shabbat arrangements, Jewish-conscious service. Premium of ~15-30% over standard luxury safari.
